Peter Clay Carroll is an American football coach in the NFL. Pete Carroll is the head coach and executive vice president of the NFL team Seattle Seahawks. He was also a coach at USC (University of South Carolina).
Pete Carroll was born on 1September 5, 1951, in San Francisco, California. He was born to parents James Edward “Jim” Carroll and Rita Carroll. His mother, Rita, is a respected person in San Francisco. Pete grew up in Greenbrae, California. He completed his high school at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California. So is he 70 years old.
Pete hadn’t made any physical progress as a teenager, having been athletic as a kid, which frustrated him in high school sports. As a newcomer, he weighed just 50 kg. Pete had to present a special medical certificate to try out for football. He could play multiple positions in football. Pete played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back. He was also recognized by the All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference both years. In 1973 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Pete tried his luck and attended the World Football League’s Honolulu Hawaiians training camp in Riverside, but unfortunately he didn’t make it. The reason was his short stature and shoulder problems. He worked other jobs to make ends meet until he decided to do something with football.
Pete’s professional career began when his head coach offered him the position of assistant. He became an assistant coach at the University of Pacific in 1973. He earned a secondary teacher’s license. Pete also earned a master’s degree in physical education in 1976 while serving as a research assistant for three years. In 1995, Pete was inducted into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame.
After working at Pacific, Pete was hired by the University of Arkansas in 1977 as a graduate assistant. While based in Arkansas, he was given more duties and responsibilities as an assistant than at Pacific. After Arkansas, he then went to Iowa State University and North Carolina State University as an assistant.
In 1984, Pete was hired by the Buffalo Bills as defensive backs coach. He worked in a similar position with the Minnesota Vikings the next year. Pete worked under Bruce Coslet for the New York Jets for four seasons as a defensive coordinator before being promoted to the Jets head coach in 1994. He was fired as the Jets continued to lose and he failed to lift the Jets trophy. Pete was signed by the New England Patriots in 1997 but later resigned for personal reasons. He coached the Patriots for two seasons. Pete was fired by the Patriots in 1999 after an unsuccessful season.
Pete signed with USC on December 15, 2000 after failing in the NFL. During his stint, the team showed a very good performance. The Trojans took 1st place five times.
Pete signed on January 11, 2010 as the head coach with the Seahawks. His contract with the Seahawks was worth $33 million for 5 years. He was also elected Executive Vice President of the club.
